Closure?

He put his thing in my butt, the 11-year-old victim testified in sexual assault trial this week.
The "he" in this case is alleged to be her grandfather.

One thing I have to remember as a reporter covering court proceedings, the accused are presumed innocent.
The victim testified this was the only time this happened.
There were other times over the past two years her grandfather "humped" her with their clothes still on.
She did not tell anyone out of fear.
The night he is alleged to have stuck his thing in her butt, she did tell her younger brother. But she told him not to tell anyone.
The grandfather had threatened her that he would harm someone, the girl said.
The victim's mother finds out about the assault about two weeks later.
It comes after she had watched a video where mothers don't believe their child's claim of being assaulted.
An incident involving the girl's two brothers opens an avenue.
Her mother asked the boys some questions.
Then she asked her daughter.
The girl breaks down in tears and tells her mother the story.
That leads the mother to call the girl's father. It is his stepfather who is the girl's grandfather.
Tempers flare in a confrontation and police are called.
The girl is taken to the hospital and examined.
A nurse testified that after seven days any evidence of an assault has been washed away.
The girl is interviewed at a child advocacy center.
Try listening to a victim recall the details. Try listening when it is a child.
The trial will draw to a close this week.
A verdict will be rendered.
Two people know what happened that night.
Will there ever be closure?
