Tough weekend, tough visit

This is a tough weekend.

I traveled home to the folks' house.

Dad is not doing well. Hospice is part of the caring team now.

They have drained lots of excessive fluid from Dad in the past week. It is not a pretty sight.

He is skin and bones. There is very little muscle left. He is a shell of himself.

Today, my daughters pay a visit along with their step mom.

My wife has seen Dad a few weeks ago and knows things are not well.

The girls have been warned and prepped as much as possible.

They want to visit Grandpa one last time. It doesn't matter they will see him beaten down.

It is a time to smile, laugh, cry and spend time with a man who cares for them deeply. More deeply than they know.

It's going to be a tough day. But it is a celebration of life and the people it has brought together as a family.
